As an old student of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, I can confirm that there are people out there who talk exactly like that about planes.

Why I posted it.
Honestly, beyond 747, 787, 737, A380 I’m pretty bad at commercial plane spotting.

I just know how to Google tail numbers to look smart on the internet.
Military hardware is way more interesting.

I suppose that that’s what we sound like to people without any sort of interest in cars.

We hired a young man who was the president of the Riddle plane spotting club. He could tell the variants of the planes we had by the number of windows. I kid you not. He been a good, enthusiastic engineer though.

I’m that guy because of passion and necessity. It pays the bills and I love aviation. Like some folks here who can tell you the rear end options installed on a car by the color of seat inserts installed I can tell you about planes and space stuff.

I read this as the “guy who thinks he’s an expert, but whose information is all hearsay/jargon they don’t actually understand.” The guy who really knows nothing.

I know, right? I live next to an Army base, so it’s all variety of rotorcraft. Except the day the C-130's came, I’ll never forget the day the C-130's came.

Thats the problem right there. That if you’re “proposed” expertise is over a period of years you’re automatically going to talk like that. smh

I live near Wright-Patterson, so I see everything from T-38s to Air Force One.
